The Stutter Big Band was founded by Annalee Koernig in 2008 for her legendary experimental music series at Horse Bazaar, and features 15 of the finest improvisers currently exploring the outer reaches of the sonoverse from Melbourne. Featuring alumni from previous incarnations, along with some additional guests co-curated by the Make It Up Club, the Stutter Big Band embodies grimcore abstraction by fusing the stark ambiance of abstracted Black Metal with electroacoustic improvisation, the avant-garde of Modernist classical chamber music and the visceral abandon of contemporary adventures in analog noise.
The Make It Up Club has been committed to nurturing, presenting and promoting avant-garde improvised music and sound performance in Melbourne for 16 years. Lovers of spontaneous sound production can see local, interstate and international artists create one-off performances, never to be played the exact same way ever again, every tuesday night at Bar Open in Fitzroy.
