Zulya and The Children of the Underground

March 13th – Russian Evolution

2 shows at 7pm and 9pm
It’s been 100 years since the October Revolution shook the world. ARIA-winning Zulya and the Children of the Underground look back at the last century of Russian song through the lens of traditional folk, Soviet pop, jazz, old movie favourites, great 20th-century Russian composers and originals. They interpret music contemporary to the major events of the last century – traversing the building of the Soviet Empire, the Great Patriotic war, the Space Race, the thaw of the 60s and stagnation of the 70s, Perestroika’s 80s, the chaos of the Yeltsin years and the grim authoritarianism of the Putin era – all set to stunning archival footage.
