Australian Art Orchestra- Meeting Points
March 17 2-4pm
In a series of intimate concerts, Meeting Points brings together unexpected musical styles to create electrifying collaborations. Featuring an incredible line-up of international artists accompanied by Australia’s leading contemporary music ensemble, the Australian Art Orchestra.
From the Air focusses on the intersection of contemporary folk and contemporary approaches to music improvisation and composition. It features Melbourne alt-folk icon Grand Salvo which is the alter-ego for singer-songwriter, Paddy Mann, who collaborates for this concert with international new music luminaries and long-time Australian Art Orchestra associates Vanessa Tomlinson and Erik Griswold who perform as a duo under the name Clocked Out. It also features award winning young clarinetist, Aviva Endean and AAO artistic director, Peter Knight in a first time meeting.
Paddy Mann’s distinctive tenor voice floats over spatters of electroacoustic crackle, bowed cymbal drones, junk percussion and toy piano, to create a sound that is at once alluring and strange. He reveals dreamscapes in whispers, and sings of unresolved longing.
