The Agony of Knowledge- Tilman Robinson: Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Bennetts Lane
Tilman Robinson premieres The Agony of Knowledge, a bold new musical exploration of the Icelandic epic poem Volsungasaga, created for the 2014 Festival via the coveted PBS Young Elder of Jazz Commission. Drawing on dramatic legends of Norse mythology that have influenced music and literature for centuries – most famously Wagner’s Ring Cycle operas and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings – this multi-movement instrumental song cycle will showcase Robinson’s unique approach to contemporary composition within the jazz, post-rock and electronic realms. Tilman Robinson – Trombone, laptop, Aviva Endean – Bass clarinet, John Rodgers – Violin, piano, James Gilligan Guitars, acoustic bass, Jonathan Heilbron – Double bass, Leigh Fisher – Drums, percussion
