New North Workshop 3: Collaborative Composition with Aviva Endean
Composer, clarinetist, and performance maker Aviva Endean will lead a workshop in collaborative composition, based in improvised and experimental practice. Over the course of the session, Aviva will lead a series of creative exercises to develop a new piece that combines the unique contributions of the participants.
Aviva will draw on methods used in her many and varied collaborative projects including Hand to Earth, The Cloud Maker, Crush Crush as well as her solo work. The workshop is an opportunity to benefit from Aviva’s deep and varied experience as a performer in countless creative music contexts including experimental improvisation, sound art, classical performance, installation and performance art.
The workshop will conclude with an informal recording of the music developed during the session that will be provided to participants after the event. Please come ready to play with some sounds you are currently excited about!
Who Is This Workshop For?
- This workshop is recommended for anyone who has an interest/engagement with experiential music or improvisation and makes sounds with acoustic or electronic instruments.
- Participants should be prepared to share a small collection of sounds or techniques that they are currently working with or developing. These will become the materials of the collaborative composition.
- The workshop will be particularly valuable for emerging experimental musicians and/or performers looking for novel collaborative experiences.
